Scottish Government

The Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice is supported by the Scottish Government and works with public, private and voluntary sector organisations, as well as individuals and families, to gather and share best practice, provide information and support, and develop new opportunities for intergenerational working in communities.

The Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice links closely with the Scottish Government's overarching purpose - to focus government and public services on creating a more successful country, with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth.
It contributes to each of the Scottish Government's Strategic Objectives -
•a wealthier and fairer Scotland
•a smarter Scotland
•a healthier Scotland
•a safer and stronger Scotland
•a greener Scotland

Visit links below to view good practice examples. Each in its own way contributes to meeting government objectives.

Generations Working Together - a Wealthier and Fairer Scotland
Sustainable economic growth is about a dynamic and growing economy while ensuring that future generations can enjoy a better quality of life.
The Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice aims to create a more equal and open society, enhancing equality of opportunity in work, school and the community.
See Cities in Balance.

Generations Working Together - a Smarter Scotland
Expand opportunities for Scots to succeed from nurture through to lifelong learning, ensuring higher and more widely shared achievements. The Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice aims to improve learning for all ages, harnessing each generation's experience, knowledge and skills to benefit individuals, families and the community.

Generations Healthier Together - a Healthier Scotland
Helping people sustain and improve their health, especially in disadvantaged communities, ensuring better, local and faster access to health care. The Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice aims to improve individual wellbeing through generations working together in communities through sport, diet and health improvement activity. See The Fruity Express.

Generations Safer Together - Safety and Protection in older age
A safer and stronger Scotland.  Local communities flourishing, becoming stronger, safer places to live, offering improved opportunities and a better quality of life.
The Government sees key elements to achieving this as:
•improving housing and neighbourhoods,
•fighting crime, and reducing the fear of crime
The Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice promotes mutual understanding between older and younger generations, by activities which increase involvement in the community, developing trust and cooperative effort.
