National Network

Our next national network meeting is on Wednesday 25th April 2012 from 11am - 2pm (tea/coffee from 10.30am), St Teresa's Education Centre, Lochside Road, Dumfries, DG2 0DY. To view the agenda please click here.

What is the national network?

The national network is a key component of the work of Generations Working Together.
Regular meetings offer opportunities for members to:

  • influence and inform policies and strategies to include intergenerational practice
  • keep up to date with the work of Generations Working Together
  • learn about interesting practice from colleagues in Scotland and further afield
  • provide networking opportunities
  • engage in discussions about opportunities, ideas, issues and challenges
  • network & partner with other national organisations

The National Network invites policy makers with responsibility for areas related to intergenerational practice such as arts, community safety, environment, health and well-being, learning and teaching, regeneration, enterprise/employment, volunteering, family and heritage. Managers of staff working intergenerationally and managers of projects themselves area also invited to join.

In general, each organisation sends one representative to ensure that meetings are both effective and enjoyable. Therefore numbers are restricted to a maximum of 30 or less, depending on the venue. The network meets 4 - 5 times a year at various locations throughout Scotland.

Future meetings
include:
Wednesday 4th July 2012 - Glasgow

Meetings usually begin at 10.30am with coffee, and finish with lunch.

What do meetings focus on?

The content of meetings varies, depending on a number of factors, including sponsorship, co-hosting and co-design with partner organisations.

Most meetings include an update on the work of Generations Working Together and an information sharing session: attendees can update colleagues on news and developments.

Meetings are themed: themes may be topical; determined by the interest of the sponsoring partner; determined by members, either at meetings or through discussion or correspondence.

What else does the network do?
Although meetings are the main business of the network, members also use the network to get in touch with people with common interests or activities.

If you would like more information or wish to JOIN the national network or host a national meeting in your area, email or phone 0141 559 5024.

The meeting in Edinburgh on 30 November 2010 was planned and organised jointly with, and hosted by, NHS Health Scotland. The broad theme was health and well-being. Sadly, the weather was against us, and only nine brave souls, out of the 30 registered, made it! The context was set by the publication of the Scottish Government's ‘Towards a Mentally Flourishing Scotland' action plan for later life. In addition to information about this, there were two presentations: Alzheimer Scotland's Football Reminiscence Project and the Powis Gardeners in Aberdeen. Click here for the November minutes.
